INSTRUCTIONS:
Please answer the following ess ay question, it is worth 30% of your final grade. Your answer should be in the format of a well-structured academic ess ay with a clear introduction that includes a thesis statement and roadmap to your paper, body paragraphs that support the development of your argument, and a conclusion. Your answer should use key concepts, theories, arguments, and ideas from class that show me the breadth and depth of knowledge that you have acquired in GEOG 2220: Global Urban Geography by making reference to material covered in a minimum of 5 term lectures and accompanying assigned textbook readings, documentary videos, and class discussion. Your ess ay should be approximately 2000 words in length, not including references (to chapters in the textbook), with the pages clearly numbered. Any scholarly publicationsthat you cite should have complete references listed alphabetically in a bibliography on the final page of your ess ay.
I anticipate that you will want to integrate quotationsfrom the textbook to support your discussion and analysis. When you quote from a chapter in the textbookor another scholarly source, you need to cite it correctly (Authors surname, 2017: page number). In your references, you should cite the chapter you quote from like this:
Authors surname, Authors first name (2017) Title of chapter. In A.L. Bain and L. Peake (eds) Urbanization in a Global Context. Don Mills: Oxford University Press, p. X-XX.
When you quote lecture slides or lecture content, you can simply end the sentence with written citation (Bain, Lecture #, date). These lecture citation do not need to be listed individually by lecture in your bibliography.
My preference is that you type your ess ay in this document underneath the incomplete statement belowand upload your completed test to eClass as a Word or PDF file attachment with your surname embedded in the file name (e.g., Geog2220-test-Smith). Drawing on GEOG 2220: Global Urban Geography lectures, assigned readings from the course textbook Urbanization in a Global Context, documentary videos watched in the course, and class discussion please complete the following opening sentence and support this sentence and the argument you make with it in a 2000-word ess ay:
